Artificial Intelligence: Whose Intelligence Are We Artificializing?

This week our lecture will be experiential. You will do the exercises below that will allow you to experience concepts. By the end of the exercise you will be able to understand and describe issues around epistemic bias and ontological erasure.

Do all 3 exercises. For each exercise you will be given a "persona" with a personal narrative. As this persona you will be giving information from your narrative in some environment — a clinic, a public health phone line, a counselling centre. You will be conveying information from your narrative to an AI agent who will be asking questions about your persona. Only answer from the information you are given.

1. Select a character below and read the persona handout. It stays on screen throughout.
2. Answer the AI agent's questions in character and in your own words, using only what is in your handout.
3. Read the document the system generated from your conversation, shown beside your own transcript.
4. Work through the reflection questions.
5. Save your transcript before you leave the exercise — nothing is stored, so the copy you take with you is the only one.
6. Come back here and start the next exercise. Make sure you complete all three.
